Israel has accepted the new proposal for a ceasefire with Hamas from US envoy Steve Witkoff, according to an Israeli official. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Hamas on Thursday said it \u201cwas reviewing the new Witkoff proposal\u201d and was \u201cresponsibly studying it in a way that serves the interests of our people, provides relief, and achieves a permanent ceasefire.\u201d <\/p>\n
According to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the hostage families earlier in the day that he had accepted Witkoff\u2019s proposal. <\/p>\n
During her briefing on Thursday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that \u201cspecial envoy Witkoff and the President submitted a ceasefire proposal to Hamas that Israel backed and supported\u201d and that discussions are ongoing. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope that a cease fire in Gaza will take place so we can return all of the hostages home and that\u2019s been a priority for this administration from the beginning,\u201d Leavitt added. <\/p>\n
Earlier on Thursday, Israel\u2019s far-right Finance Minister Bezalal Smotrich said accepting the proposal would be \u201csheer madness,\u201d writing on social media that he \u201cwill not allow such a thing to happen. Period.\u201d <\/p>\n
But Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept the proposal \u201cpublicly and immediately.\u201d He said he would support the government, even if its far-right members abandoned it. <\/p>\n
Bahbah, who led the group \u201cArab Americans for Trump\u201d during the 2024 presidential campaign, has been working on behalf of the administration. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
